Dhiaa Kareem Ali is a lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Kufa, Iraq, where he specializes in the intersection of discourse, society, and politics. His research focuses on critical discourse studies, language, racism, discrimination, and self and other representation. He is also an honorary associate research fellow at the University of Exeter.
He was awarded a project on ‘Post-DAESH Identity (Re)construction in the War-torn Areas,’ funded by the Nahrein Network at University College London, and a visiting scholarship by the British Institute in Iraq for the project ‘The Mandaeans in Iraq Today: Perceptions, Heritage Exclusion, and Community.’ Dr. Ali is also the principal investigator of two projects: ‘Reclaiming Perception through Story and Memory: The Case of Iraq’s Mandaeans,’ funded by the University of Birmingham, and ‘The Untold Stories: The Oral History, Memory, and Displacement Archive in Post-ISIS Conflict Areas in Iraq,’ funded by Imagining Futures at the University of Exeter.
Dr. Ali completed his PhD at Newcastle University in 2018.
